Dr. Neeta Somaiah currently serves as the Chair of Sarcoma Medical Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, one of the largest sarcoma centers in the world. With over 15 years of clinical and research experience, she possesses a profound understanding of the complexities involved in managing various sarcoma subtypes, which are quintessential examples of rare cancers. Previously, she held the roles of Deputy Chair and Director of Sarcoma Clinical Research, where she played a pivotal role in building the Sarcoma Clinical Research Enterprise, which now manages over 25 clinical trials. Dr. Somaiah has provided invaluable mentorship to young faculty, fellows, and researchers, helping to launch many successful careers. Recognized nationally and internationally as an expert in sarcomas, her primary research focuses on liposarcoma and gastrointestinal stromal tumors, particularly in evaluating the role of immunotherapy in treating soft tissue sarcomas. She established a Liposarcoma Working Group at her institute, concentrating on collaborative translational research to enhance the understanding of liposarcoma and develop novel therapeutic options for patients. Additionally, she supported and encouraged the establishment of the first liposarcoma-specific advocacy group, the Liposarcoma Support Network. With over 100 peer-reviewed publications and numerous honors for her expertise and patient care, including recognition as among the top 1% of providers nationally, Dr. Somaiah demonstrates unwavering commitment to her patients and the advancement of rare cancer treatment
