Dr. Rolnick is an academic physician with over forty years’ experience practicing Emergency Medicine. He founded the first academic Department of Emergency Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine and was its first Chairman. At both Georgetown and Maryland, he created several innovative medical programs: the first tri-university medical center residency program; the National Capital Poison Center; one of the first student-run campus emergency services; a state-wide emergency network for clinical care; a medical faculty development program; and was the founder and medical director of a state-wide medical referral service for critically ill patients needing tertiary care. Outside the academic arena, Dr. Rolnick was the Medical Director of World Access, a company that provided comprehensive medical care patient evacuation for international travelers. Additionally, Dr. Rolnick taught Emergency Medicine part-time at the University of Utrecht School of Medicine in the Netherlands. Dr. Rolnick also was one of the founders and the initial President and CEO of the National Foundation for Emergency Medicine.
